Title:
Draw Me a Picture of the "Passover" Jesus
Scripture:
Exodus 12; 1 Cor. 5:7
Date: March 12, 2006

Speaker: Pastor Gordon Everett
Description: Even today, faithful Jewish families celebrate the thousands-of-years-old Passover Meal somewhere around Easter time.  The menu is always the same: thinks like roast lamb, bitter herbs, and unleavened bread.  This Old Testament meal was invented by God and, as you might imagine, it is full of Jesus-meaning!  There was a reason Jesus selected a Passover meal to be the last supper he enjoyed with His disciples.  There is a reason why the New Testament calls Jesus our Passover Lamb Sacrifice.  The Passover is there to help us understand just how much Jesus did for us on the Cross.

Title: Draw Me a Picture of the "Scapegoat" Jesus
Scripture: Leviticus 14 & 16
Date: March 19, 2006

Speaker: Pastor Tim Walton
Description: This story is haunting and vivid.  Once per year on the great Day of Atonement the priest would choose a goat for the whole nation.  He would lay his hands on the goat's head and symbolically transfer a year's worth of sin onto the poor goat.  Then the goat would be led out into the wilderness and released.  What an incredible picture of Jesus taking away our sins! "The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all." Isaiah 53:6

Title: Draw Me a Picture of the "Rock" Jesus
Scripture: Exodus 17:17; 1 Cor. 10:1-4
Date: April 2, 2006

Speaker: Pastor Gordon Everett
Description: Millions of people in the Sinai wilderness presented Moses with a huge public works problem: where to get lots of water!  In one instance, God had Moses strike a rock and out came a gusher!  And it happened at least one other time.  You might suspect that these rocks were something pretty special!  You'd be right!  The New Testament says that the Rock the Israelites drank from in the wilderness was Christ!  Feeling thirsty these days?  The Rock is still the Water of Life!

Title: Draw Me a Picture of the "Suffering Servant" Jesus
Scripture: Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53
Date: April 9, 2006

Speaker: Pastor Wayne Smith
Description: All the Jews expected the coming Messiah to hit the ground like Rambo!  Their Messiah picture storybook was full of images of power, conquest, and regal splendor.  It must have really bothered them when they read the enigmatic passage about the Suffering Servant in Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53.  They never connected this with the Messiah - it must be somebody else - who?  Look at the Gospels - even the Twelve Disciples shrugged off Jesus' suffering predictions.  They had so much "Kingdom" in their eyes that they couldn't see the "Cross."  Learn why this Old Testament picture of dark suffering is such a significant picture for us!

Title: Draw Me a Picture of the "Jonah Protocol" Jesus
Scripture: Matthew 12:39-40
Date: April 16, 2006
(Easter Sunday)
Speaker: Pastor Tim Walton
Description: Almost everybody knows the story of Jonah and the Great Fish, but did you know that underneath the script of this story is another picture of Jesus?  Jesus called it the "sign" of Jonah and said that is was a picture of His death, His burial, and His resurrection.  Let's revisit this wonderful Old Testament story and tap into its victorious Jesus meaning!

Title: Draw Me a Picture of the "No More Poverty" Jesus
Date: April 23, 2006
Speaker: Pastor Gordon Everett
Description: In Old Testament times, God's people were supposed to leave the corners of their fields un-harvested.  They were to leave the crops they dropped during harvest right where they lay.  These leftovers were for the poor - the wealthy were to leave the margins for those who had less.  This is where we got the idea that we still call "gleaning."  Let's see how this agricultural picture colors the way God wants us to be an Inside-Out-Church!

Title: Draw Me a Picture without Any Words!
Date: April 30, 2006
Speaker: Pastor Tim Walton
Description: Sometimes a picture isn't the best way to communicate; it's the only way to communicate!  Israel was a living picture to the surrounding nations of what a people looked like who obeyed God and prospered under His loving hand.  Those Gentile peoples didn't want to hear any sermons about Jehovah, but they couldn't escape the incredible real-life picture of how God blessed His people.  They couldn't argue against it.  Today there are people who don't want to hear our Christian talk - so let's give them a picture that they can't ignore and can't argue against - the picture of an Inside-Out-Church that is blessing its community in significant ways!
